Even if you didn’t start designing your wedding day look when you were six years old, you probably have thought of what you will wear on this special day- especially after you get engaged! The good thing is, there are so many options to make your choice without harming the planet.
Local Custom Designers dedicated to Sustainability
Have you heard of Pure Magnolia in North Vancouver? This local company is committed to creating unique pieces with up-cycled vintage materials and ethically sourced sustainable materials like organic cotton, silk, hemp, and cupro. The styles are designed to have a longer life while helping close the production system loop. They can be easily modified, dyed, and re-worn multiple times, making the investment well worth it and kinder to the Earth. BONUS- most of the collection is on sale!

There are some other amazing designers doing similar things, like Laudae, a Vancouver-based company crafting sustainable, sexy and size-inclusive pieces. Laudae only works with partners that meet their social and environmental ethical standards, and source and manufacture responsibly. You can find them in retailers all across North America and Europe. So, if you are considering creating your bridal look from scratch, consider more than just “shopping local”.

Nontraditional Looks
At WasteKnot, WE LOVE REBELS. Go against tradition and dare to be different. Bring in some colour, add more personality, and forget about the perfect white dress. It’s 2025 and traditional views are no longer necessary if that does not align with you. Remember, don’t let anyone else make this decision for you. Get creative and more importantly, shop around for something that already exists!

*WARNING: While we encourage second-hand and thrifting, WasteKnot HIGHLY recommends selecting sturdy materials and fitting your outfit with a professional seamstress to make sure it is fitting well for your day without any surprises. Don’t let your wedding day be more stressful because your second-hand vintage zipper broke! (true story)
